TIS THE SEASON FOR BROKEN WATER PIPES

This time of year, is the time of year to make sure you prepare your home and business for the cold weather ahead of all of us.  We see frozen water pipes break every year in both residential structures and commercial buildings. 

One of the most memorable losses occurred in a hotel that did not repair the heater in a stairwell and the sprinkler pipe broke on the 3^rd floor inside of the room adjacent to the stairwell.  The pipe ran for only a short period of time, but the damages were quite large.  The water affected 12 rooms and 3 hallways plus the stairwell. This loss could have been prevented if preventative maintenance would have been completed.  We see this every year in both residential and commercial buildings.  Below are some suggestions for protecting pipes, preventing breaks, and thawing pipes if they do freeze.
